Date: 27.03.2010
Time: 8:30 - 9:30PM (your time zone)
Where: Planet Earth
In 2007, Australians turned their lights off and started what we call "Earth Hour."
After three years, the entire world has followed (with some sad exceptions) this commendable tradition.
Now, why do we do it? Because our planet needs a break.
And it's only an hour on a Saturday night. There are a million things that you could do to entertain yourself.
Plus, candlelight makes everything more fun. Right? (it also makes it less scary, because the dark is soooo scary)
You just need to get creative, so let me help you with this little list I wrote especially for you. Yes YOU!
LIST
Start by lighting some candles. Then. . .
1. Turn lights off.
2. Unplug all your appliances, chargers, computers, everything!
3. Play an instrument or try to learn how to play one.
4. Play board games or cards with your loved ones.
5. Take a nap.
6. Prepare some yummy earth-friendly snacks. You can find many great recipes online.
7. Invite friends over. Get them out of their house (by doing this, you'll also make sure they observe Earth Hour--it can be your secret agenda, but it will be super fun for all of you!).
8. Gaze at the stars. Go on your rooftop with a blanket or somewhere you can see the stars.
9. Host a yoga session for family and friends
10. Have a family candlelit picnic
11. Read a book
12. Tell scary stories
13. Have a sing-a-long
14. Have a Scavenger Hunt with flashlights look for eco-themed items.
15. Go for a walk, and spy on your neighbors to see if they're also observing Earth Hour.
So there is no need to be bored or sad or scared.
Make the most out of this night, and maybe you will like it so much that you will want to turn everything off more often and enjoy these free activities.
